Nairobi will soon be home to Africa’s tallest building, and with it comes challenging energy needs that old solutions are not well equipped to meet. Korea-based Electronics giant LG is continually developing Energy Management Solutions (EMS) aimed at meeting head on these very challenges.
The Pinnacle, a new 70-storey luxury development that includes two glass-façade towers, is one among several mixed-use developments and planned communities that are fast becoming a common feature in Kenya.
The soon to be tallest building on the continent comprises 70 storeys with 20 floors commercial (11 offices and nine retail) and the balance consisting of 209 opulent residential apartments, and the other tower, the 45-storey, 255-room Hilton Hotel with conference facilities, luxury spa, gym and open-air infinity pool.
With such a diverse development relying on a central power supply, the varying energy needs of a smart city presents a unique challenge to developers. Advanced EMS solutions are available for homes, office buildings and retail spaces and help to monitor, control, and optimize performance wherever they are installed.
“A modern EMS is even capable of operating in mixed-use facilities to create optimal output across multiple locations with varied climate settings –such as hotels and restaurants. Their adaptability and ability to improve over time makes a capable EMS a necessary component in future-oriented urban planning,” says Moses Marji, LG Electronics (EA) General Manager Marketing.
By decreasing energy consumption while boosting overall comfort and satisfaction, these sustainable solutions present a true win-win scenario for occupants of any future city.
