How LG has bridged the gap between cooking skills and healthy eating

The Global Nutrition Report 2017 estimates that more than 2 billion adults in the world are overweight or obese and this is mostly due to poor eating habits.

About 41 million children are overweight; a health issue that has been traced back to parents encouraging fast foods and other unhealthy diets.

With people spending more time at work and less time at home, there is a rising pattern of people who do not know how to cook different meals. This in turn encourages people to take shortcuts by eating fast foods that are bad for their health.

It is these changing lifestyle trends that prompted home appliance companies such as LG Electronics to invest more in research and design of consumer-centric kitchen solutions that promote healthy lifestyles.

“Our smart kitchen solutions not only complement the busy lifestyle of many urban users, but they also encourage healthy eating by bridging the gap of knowledge for many people who do not have culinary skills,” says Moses Marji, the General Manager Marketing for LG East Africa.

LG’s range of smart kitchen solutions is ideal for amateur chefs looking to improve their cooking skills and eat healthier meals.

Smart oven settings cook food more naturally and efficiently, locking healthy nutrients in, and keeping harmful fats and sodium out. LG Lightwave Oven technology offers the flexibility to heat foods in multiple ways to cook healthier, tastier, gourmet-standard food with minimal effort.

“The seamless connectivity inherent in LG’s smart kitchen solution will revolutionize the cooking and dining habits of consumers,” said Mr Marji. “By streamlining food preparation and cleanup from start to finish, LG’s use of artificial intelligence in the kitchen enhances quality of life by offering innovative solutions to everyday struggles in the kitchen.”

In addition to intuitive interfaces that simplify even the most complex dishes, the smart appliances offer a range of features that are time-saving and convenient for those looking to eat right.

An October 2016 survey revealed that approximately every Kenyan has lost a close friend or family member to lifestyle diseases such as diabetes.

Furthermore, the World Health Organization reports that 30 per cent of Kenyans are now suffering from premature deaths due to physical inactivity and unhealthy diets.

The role of good nutrition can therefore not be overemphasized. However, barriers such as lack of cooking skills and ignorance of healthy recipes are now easy to overcome using the latest Artificial Intelligence technology. Kenyans should indeed be taking advantage of these advancements.
