Why LG’s Lightwave is the future of the connected kitchen

The advent of the internet and most specifically the advancement in technology in the recent years has made it much easier than ever before not to cook at home. Sprawling fast food restaurants and food delivery applications have made it easier as tapping a few buttons on your phone, or stepping into the next food store.
Although studies have over the years shown that people who eat more home cooked meals consume fewer calories than those who eat out on a regular basis, it does not necessary mean that eating at home will guarantee you a healthy diet. Just because you made a meal from the comfort of your kitchen does not automatically make the food healthy.
One of the biggest reasons people opt to eat out is convenience. However, the very search for convenience at times comes at a very hefty price. According to the midterm, targets of the Kenya health sector strategic plan 2014-2018, twice as many women (38.4 percent) compared to men (17.5 percent) were either overweight or obese.
The report indicates that the prevalence of obesity increased rapidly after 2008, from 7.2 per cent to 12.6per cent in 2015. This report comes in the wake of World Health Organization’s report that put Kenyan women as the ninth most overweight in Africa.
Smart technology is fast infiltrating the heart of our homes-the kitchen. This comes at a time when the public debate in the recent months has mostly pointed a finger at the rapidly increasing fast food joints as the main contributor of obesity and weight gain in the country.
With double functionality of both a microwave and oven, LG’s Lightwave oven is easy to use and offers a greater cooking flexibility compared to other traditional ovens. The Lightwave oven technology reduces unnecessary fats during the process of cooking therefore making meals healthier than ever.
“The charcoal lighting heater represents a big step forward in home cooking,” said LG Electronics Marketing Manager, Moses Marji.
“In terms of cooking food more naturally, this tech really is a game changer. It not only helps reduce unnecessary fats, but also prevents nutrient loss that occurs in traditional ovens during the process of cooking. In addition to that, this oven has a wide range of convenience enhancing functions designed to specifically make life easier in the kitchen and ensure that you always eat right and stay healthy.”
As technology advances, our kitchens are rapidly developing and adapting to become more and more efficient, flexible and time saving. Wi-Fi connected smart gadgets mean that we are able to spend much less time and effort in our kitchen as technology does the rest of work on our behalf.
The habits most of us pick while preparing meals around the home also affects our health leading to the risk of rising obesity levels. This has led to an increase in lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease and psychological disorders that arise from increase in weight. Thanks to increasing technology in our kitchens, we are now able to eat healthy home-cooked meals.
LG’s advanced refrigerators on the other hand are designed to enable you check on the items stored inside without necessarily having to open the door therefore reducing cold air loss hence helping keep your food fresher longer. This ensures that you eat healthily at all times.
With these leading smart kitchen appliances, LG aims at helping families and individuals cook and share meals at home every day and ensure that we eat right in a bid to diet and help fight obesity and weight gain.
